Program Description:

As an enhancement to its French Language curriculum, the College of Arts and Humanities has developed a study abroad program for undergraduate students interested in French Language and Culture at UCF.

Students will have the opportunity to further develop their oral, aural, and writing abilities while learning in the context of France.

The French Language and Culture Program will be hosted by the University of Paul Sabatier Toulouse III.  Students will begin their program for one week in Paris which will include visits to museums, castles and main points of interest.  Students will then transfer to Toulouse for courses taught by the University of Paul Sabatier Toulouse III and will have weekend excursions to the south of France including Bordeaux, Nice and the Côte d'Azur.

Students will be tested for their language level prior to beginning the program and be assigned to a class accordingly. Classrooms will have a combination of students of the same level from different areas all over the world that are learning French as a second language. 

Participants will be evaluated by a combination of weekly quizzes, homework, oral presentations and final exams. While in France, students are expected to speak in French at all times, remain engaged in the program’s experiences, and take advantage of the French culture. 

 
Students on this program should plan to arrive in Paris, France by noon on the starting day of the program in order to be in country to transfer to the hotel.  Please note, check flight schedules carefully before booking.  To arrive by noon on the starting day of this program, fights must depart the USA the day before the start of the program.  Students are encouraged not to purchase their flights until after the application deadline and the applicants have been informed that the program has met its minimum numbers.

Learning Outcomes:

• Improve upon French language comprehension in conversation, reading and writing in a setting created specifically for second language acquisition
• Identify and discuss meanings in relationship to the context of the conversation or text, including non-verbal clues
• Communicate with local, native speakers inside and outside of the classroom in the target language
• Recognize appropriate use of language in different cultural contexts (formal, casual, generational)
• Gain insight into what it means to live in a global world
• Compare and contrast college life in USA and France
• Describe non-verbal cues for France
• Explore cultural differences and similarities between France and USA
• Enhance knowledge of French history, music and art
• Recognize and describe cultural norms for France
• Gain exposure to diverse social values and intellectual atmospheres
• Experience cultural immersion with excursions throughout France.

Minimum GPA: 2.50 cumulative

FRE1121: prerequisite = FRE1120 (This corresponds to the beginner's class taught at UPS)
FRE2200: prerequisite = FRE1121 (This corresponds to one intermediate's class taught at UPS)
FRE2201: prerequisite = FRE1121 (This corresponds to the other intermediate's class taught at UPS)
FRE3410: no prerequisite
FRE4471: prerequisite = FRE2201 (This will be the 6 credits for majors and minors, mandatory, and corresponding with the 2 advanced classes they have to take at UPS)

The following services are included as part of the program fee:

• Shared hotel accommodations in Paris, France including breakfast
• Shared hotel accommodations in Toulouse, France including sheets, towels, as well as room service one a week
• Round trip train transportation between Paris and Toulouse
• Admission to the Eiffel Tower
• Day trip excursion to the Champagne region including a a tasting and lunch in Reims
• Admission to Sainte Chappelle, Notre Dame, Cluny Museum, & Roman Baths
• Day trip excursion to Versailles
• Admission to the Aquitaine Museum
• Weekend excursion to Bordeaux & Biarritz with visits to local chateaux including meals and shared hotel accommodations before returning to Toulouse (dinner not included on final day)
• Weekend excursion to the Côte d'Azur/Nice/Saint Tropez area of France with a stop in Nimes to visit the ampitheater with meals included and shared hotel accommodations
• Walking tour of Nice, France as well as admission to the Chagall Museum & Matisse Museum
• Admission to the Archaeological Museum in Nice
• Airport transfer upon arrival
• Medical insurance including repatriation
• Administrative Fee

• Roundtrip flight between Orlando, Florida and Paris, France
• Passport or visa fees
• Incidentals
• Meals except as listed above
• Currency exchange fees
• Personal travel not associated with the program
• Tips and gratuities for tour guides and private charter buses
• UCF tuition
• Departing transfer to the airport
• Local ground transportation pass in Toulouse (approximately €20 for 5 weeks)
